System Gate World Tournament 2025 Wrap Up

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s World Tournament! In my opinion, this was the best one we have had yet!

Congratulations to the defending Champion, Kenton Banyai, on his win this year! Kenton chose to bring back his signature Uranus cards, but with a twist. Mixing in cards from just about every year of System Gate, Kenton used Deepwood Protector to great effect to shut down his opposition.

The other most important card during the day was the Asteroid Belt staple card, Sealing Candles. Deepwood Protector and Sealing Candles were without a doubt the most valuable cards at the World Tournament this year.

We put this years balance patch to a vote, and here is what the community decided.

In regards to Deepwood Protector, the community overwhelmingly voted in favor of changing this card’s Gate Master Skill from Life -4 to Draw -1.

Life -4 was simply giving the card an un-fun aggressive bend to a card that already boasts some of the best defensive and control tools around.

Sealing Candles was far less clear. It was split nearly exactly 50/50 on whether the community wanted to leave this card as is, or give it a [Cost] of 2 life.

Given how close the results were and the obvious desire to change this card as little as possible, we have decided to not make any errata to Sealing Candles.

However, to shake up the meta a tad moving forward, Sealing Candles will be seeing a deck building restriction. For now, PLAYER CAN ONLY INCLUDE 2 COPIES OF SEALING CANDLES IN THEIR DECKS.

This will make the cards harder to find AND make it such that players will only every have to deal with this powerful removal tool twice per game.
