Legacy’s Allure + System Gate

Hey card folks.

This is Rhydon Vassay.

These past 3 years of my life have been some of the best years I have ever had. For all this time, I’ve been working with an amazing man. Keith Rice. One of the best things to even happen to me was his comment on my Youtube Channel asking if I wanted to take a look at a little war game he was working on. That game was Legacy’s Allure. It’s been an irreplaceable part of my life ever since.

I want to give a huge personal and professional thank you to Keith Rice and Plutonian Shore games for allowing Legacy’s Allure to be a part of my company’s monumental 10th Anniversary celebration.

Thank you for everything.

BT06 Breakdown

Hello there fellow Gate Masters! Everyone here at Speedrobo Games is really excited for BT06 and the possibilities that it unlocks for so many planets. Everyone’s worked really hard on it and I’m going to share some of the secrets hidden in this set with you.

This set is the first booster set of the “unofficial” season 2 of System Gate. In Season 2 our goal is to create a comfortable new start point for fresh players, like we did with Battle Box 01. Our second goal is to create new archetypes for existing planets and/or flesh out previously teased attributes! Booster Set 6, Apex Battle, falls into that second goal for Season 2. Around half the planets in the game are getting their first taste of Season 2’s power!

The first non-Venus Finale Unit!?

Let’s cover the first and most obvious addition in season 2. Finale units for more planets! Every planet will eventually get a selection of their very own finale units, but Pluto and Cyber Space are the first ones. There will be more finale unit support for more planets in June’s trial deck, Final Eclipse.

Let’s talk more about Pluto! In this collection of cards, I wanted to give Pluto an expansion on some of it’s existing tools with flexible cards that can be used for multiple purposes. They have two new spells the combo with each other by triggering the cast conditions and give an expansion to Pluto’s control build! Their new finale unit, Dainty Despot, allows Pluto to try for more Vampire attack extensions if the first attempt misses while also giving Mill Pluto an additional resource control tool!

Moving on to the other planet getting Finale Units for the first time, Spyder now gets to be it’s own Archetype in Cyber Space. Cyber space is the planet with the most new cards and includes another Gate as well! For today though, we will just be focusing on the new Spyder cards. Routina allows for more signature Cyber Space aggression while Spyder World Wide Web gives the player a new way to cash out Spyders cloning searches!

Alpha Centauri gets it’s next wave of support in this set too! Nebula was always one of my favorite cards from BT01 as she really showcased the power of the Gate Master Zone. This is getting expanded upon in BT06. Try changing your Gate Master on the fly in Alpha!

New Neptune support has been highly anticipated by the community and I’m thrilled that it’s finally ready! <<Insect>> is a new attribute to Neptune and with it comes a whole new playstyle. This style is still hitting all the same highs as Neptune’s previous support, but is a bit easier for newer players to pick up. One of my big regrets with the first set was releasing Neptune so early into the game’s life span. I sincerely hope that this new build will bring in new fans to this interesting control planet.

There’s so much more to explore in BT06, including new Asteroid Belt cards! I really hope that players new and old will be able to pick up this booster set and enjoy the ever expanding world of System Gate. – Speedrobo

Flaredrake vs Brush Beast

Hey there Gate Masters! I’m here to share some more information about the upcoming product “Flaredrake vs Brush Beast”. This will be the game’s first two player starter set and is the official kick off for SEASON 2!

Think of season 2 as just that, a fresh starting point for the series. Players who have followed us through season 1 will feel rewarded for sticking with us, but new players will have a non-intimidating jumping in point!

That’s why this box is everything that two players need to learn how to play the game.

A huge thanks to Emil. L. for getting the art put together for this set, as he did the majority of the work. Our leading artist I.E. Guyer of course lent his talents for some of the returning spell cards in this box!

Now let’s talk about one of the exciting new features in Season 2. ALL NEW GATE MASTER SKILLS!

Assault and Guard are skills that add Token spell cards from outside the game to your hand! This lets you save your power move for when you really need it! Each of these spells comes with three optional effects that will let you defend or attack depending on the token you get.

Eat Putin Dev Log #3

Hey there card folk, Speedrobo here. In today’s Dev Log I’m going to talk about one of the challenges I have faced when designing and playtesting this game. It was something I did not anticipate as I come from the realm of CCGs.

TWO PLAYER VS FOUR PLAYER.

The game, even though I didn’t realize it, was designed and balanced around having all four players playing at the same time. This would mean that each playstyle, single rush, team combo, player control, and Putin control would all be featured. Each player kept the others in check as both control and rushdown battled it out. Four player games have always been super fun and dynamic.

The problems arose when the game was taken to 2 player. Originally, the two player game play worked exactly the same as 4 players. Each player would choose a Dinosaur Team and deploy their three pieces. Issues started to be shown almost instantly. If one player choose a control team and the other player choose an aggressive one, the non-control player would just get bullied the whole game. With no other players to spread out the abuse, it was a matter of fact. If both players choose an aggressive team, nothing could stop players from just chomping Putin, and the game became luck of the draw on where Putin would move and who would get the win. This was much less fun than the four player variant.

The first thing we tried was having Putin draw 2 cards at the end of each turn. This helped somewhat, but still had the issue of the potential lack or domination of the control players.

The current solution is that in a two player game, players will choose and control 2 dinosaur teams. This essentially gives the same balance as the four player game with the all 4 play-styles being represented and Putin moving the correct amount.

I’ll keep y’all up to date on the progress of the two player format. Rules are still in adjustment as the game is still being developed.

Don’t forget to follow our kickstarter! Thank you!

Our New Board Game

How’s it going Card Folk, Speedrobo here. A few months ago, I got a game idea pitched to me that I could not turn down.

“The game’s name is ‘Eat Putin!’ In this game, players will take control of teams of time traveling dinosaurs on a mission. Go back in time, eat Putin, save the world.” – Torch, united states veteran.

That pitch was so funny and unique, I just had to help get the game made. The game is still in development. We are currently working on balancing and product quality. The core mechanics are done, and tons of fun. The game is casual, fast, and easy to learn.

We’re putting this game on Kickstarter, I’m pretty confident in it’s odds of doing well on the platform. In addition, we want to open the game up to pre-orders as we are donating at least 20% of the profits made to the following charities.
-World Food Program – Ukraine

-Mercy Corps – Ukraine

-Doctors Without Borders – Ukraine

-Direct donation to the Government of Ukraine for the war effort.
A big goal with this project is being able to do some actual good. This charity idea was from Torch as well. Another of his concepts that I loved.

The art for this game was done by the amazing @LadyAnimeNet on twitter. She’s done work for Speedrobo Games before and is always fantastic. Follow her on Twitter.

All this information and more is going to be on our Kickstarter page as well, and I’ll keep you updated on the progress of the project here as well. You can join our Kickstarter on our pre-launch page here. We plan to officially kick off the project on July 27th. Thanks for your support!

Balance, Card Text Improvements, and more

Thank you all for your continued love and support of System Gate. We have a ton of news and announcements tonight. Each of these changes and improvements are meant to make the game more fun and enjoyable to all.

To begin, let’s go over the balance changes that will be happening based on the results of the World Tournament. To being, a huge congratulations to Ava Vassay, Devon Harman, Andrew Hoch, and Kenton Banyai for their knock out performances at the event! Three of the top 4 players all used Alpha Centauri. With a showing that strong, a small balance change was in order for the planet. All of the play testers put in a huge effort looking over the cards, decks, and strategies used by these players to see what the root cause of the strength was.

The #1 card that was brought up was Tamagear Metal Storm. This card was a 4 of inclusion not only in the top 3 decks from the World Championship, but a 4 of inclusion in every Alpha deck that has ever won a tournament. In Alpha Centauri, the Cyborg Dragons are meant to provide the defense, and the Tamagear are meant to provide aggression and options to those cards. Metal Storm simply doubled down on the defense, making it a bit too oppressive. Since Metal Storm is a Trial Deck card, it was converted to a card to help teach and demonstrate the [Combine] Mechanic to new players.

The #2 card was sighted in playtesting was Universe Dragon Carrier, Genesis. With recent additions to the Planet, it’s ability to destroy cards was simply too oppressive and un-fun to play against. Therefore, an adjustment to once per turn was essential.

These changes are not done simply as a means to “Nerf” Alpha Centauri, but to make the planet play more as it was designed to. These changes were done to keep the spirit of the Planet intact, similar to the reasons behind the recent changes to Uranus.

The next HUGE announcement we have tonight is a change to card text. Firstly, triggers will now be color coordinated to improve readability. Yellow for [Cost], Blue for [Counter], Red for [Use], [Green] for Keyword, and Black * for Automatic.

The next upgrade to card text is the switch from third person to first person card text. This will save on card space and increase readability. It’s like the card itself is talking to you!

Finally, [Summon Cost], [Cast Cost], and [Equip Cost] will all be written as [Cost]. This is again to reduce wasted card space.

The final news we have to share with you tonight is the introduction of Version 2.0 Trial Decks! These upgraded decks will feature cards with the new wording and coloring to the card text as well as improved card ratios! These decks are guaranteed to give new players the best possible jumping off point to enjoy the world of System Gate! The printing of these new deck version will begin once the remains of our limited stock of version 1.0 is sold out.

Thank you again to everyone for playing and enjoying System Gate. Keep letting us know what you want to see next!

Introducing TAG TEAM FORMAT!

In this post, I will cover how to play the official Tag Team format for System Gate.

To play, each team will need two players. For examples, we will call them Team A and Team B. Therefore, Team A will have Player A1 and Player A2 and Team B will have Player B1 and B2.

Teams will share start at 40 life. Reduce the other Teams life total to 0 to win! Teams will share life, energy, and other resources. To set up the game, randomly choose one player to go first. Then all players draw 6 cards, mulligan, and gain 2 Energy.

For this example, let us say that Player A1 is going first. Player A1 draws, and charges and draws. Player A1 may only make 1 attack this turn. When resolving any skills that affect themself, they may choose their teammate as the target of the effect. For example, Player A1 casts “Yeehaw” to draw 2 cards. They may choose Player A2 to draw the two cards instead.

When attacking or using a skill that affects the opponent, players may choose either opponent. For example, if Player A1 attacks with “Demon Prince Aamun” they may attack Player B1 or Player B2 or any Units on either of those player’s field.

When Player A1 ends their turn, the next turn is taken by Player B1. During this turn, Player B1 may only attack once. At the end of Player B1’s turn, the next player’s turn will be Player A2. Player A2 may only attack once during this turn. After Player A2’s turn, it will become Player B2’s turn. During this turn, Player B2 may attack as many times as possible. After this turn, it becomes Player A1’s turn again and all players may now attack as much as possible during their turns.

Strategy Gate: Revenge

[Revenge] is undeniably one of the most power, prominent, and game defining keywords in all of System Gate. Today we will discuss why, how each planet utilizes it, and how to play around it.

Revenge is the primary way to deal damage and/or disrupt your opponent’s formation during their turn. This alone makes it powerful, but Revenge also has a variation in output. If your opponent link attacks with low enough power, you could potential destroy all of the units in the link attack with your [Revenge]. To top it off, a card that grants [Revenge] is easily accessible to all Planets thanks to the Asteroid card “Asteroid Energy.” Due to all of these factors, it’s no wonder that [Revenge] strategies are incredibly common with the majority of players.

Next, let’s cover how each Planet takes advantage of this powerful Keyword. Venus and Alpha Centauri, as usual, are the average. Each coming with a Spell that increases a unit’s stats by +5000/+5000 and giving [Revenge] for the battle. Neptune has a spell that works in the same way, but gives +6000/+6000. As expected, Neptune as the most powerful spell version of this effect. Uranus does things a bit different. They have a spell that allows for the summoning of a Unit during [Counter] timing, that unit is then given [Revenge]. The rest of the planets will have to make due with the aforementioned Asteroid Energy for now.

So, now that we know about [Revenge] and what it can, how do we play around it? In general, it’s a safe bet to assume that your opponent will be using a [Revenge] card in their deck. To this effect, if you are concerned about getting messed up by [Revenge], attack with your weakest unit first. If you do get Revenged, you’ll be losing less value this way. Try and anticipate when your opponent has a [Counter] card and try to bait them into using it! Against Uranus, Link Attacking is key! Uranus’ primary fizzle only works against Link attacks was well as not having a way to increase defense with their Planetary [Revenge] card. So if you link attack against them, odds are it will go your way.
